There are many of Italia and Partners' distinctive features in the design approach taken for the apartment in Collingham Place in the Earls Court district of Chelsea. Starting from a surface area of approximately 75 square meters split over three levels, the owners needed to add another bathroom on the living area level and redistribute the space to resolve the mismatch between the kitchen and the living room. The entrance was opened up completely to create a larger living area, while emphasizing the beautiful existent windows. The stairs were transformed from a critical element of the apartment into a visual and functional focal point with spectacular impact by swapping the old carpet for wood with the same finish as the flooring. For even greater effect, black lacquered handrails were designed to reflect the rectangles in the suspended ceilings, complete with LED strips inside. Once again, great importance was given to the lighting design, one of the firm's characteristic elements: the lighting is based on iGuzzini Laser Blade recessed lamps inserted into black rectangles, which were made to design in the suspended ceilings throughout the house, and alternate asymmetrically for great decorative effect in an apartment that features works of art by Roy Lichtenstein and Walter Valentini, as well as some iconic objects from the history of design, such as the Arco lamp by Castiglioni and the Eames Lounge Chair.

Project Quote

"Great importance was given to the lighting project, which has become a hallmark of our firm: in fact, the lighting is done with iGuzzini Laser Blades inserted into black rectangles, which were specially made to our design in the suspended ceilings throughout the house, and alternate asymmetrically to increase invisibility of the light fixtures."
