Spazio Berlendis is a space designed to host a variety of cultural events, such as art exhibitions, performances, music and conferences.

It is housed in the beautifully restored carpenter’s workshop that was part of the Squero Fassi (also known as the Squero Vecio), one of the oldest shipyards in Venice.

The structure, which combines a strong sense of contemporary style with a visible respect for its original structure and urban context, is a unique addition to the city. The renovation has taken particular care over the choice of materials and finishes, like the concrete floor and its craft resin finish.

The idea was to create a space that would combine the appeal of a distinctive context with the versatility of a neutral environment without any of the limits of a historic palazzo. Thus making it an ideal location for hosting a wide range of artistic events as it would be a hand-crafted, pavilion-like complex, located right in the heart of the city. The result, in fact, is a neutral container with real character that allows artworks to express themselves without competing with them.

The water gateway that provides access to both homes and workshops directly from the city’s canals, is unique even for Venice, as it has a totally and deliberately contemporary style while also respecting the traditional function of this kind of entrance.

Both the structure’s versatile architecture and lighting system are designed to adapt to different types of events. In fact, the space can be used with either natural (zenithal) light or artificial light for darker experiences, like videos or performances. For this reason, an extremely versatile lighting system has been installed, based on the use of tracks and small-body, square version View projectors with a wide flood optic to illuminate the large, vertical surfaces on which the artworks are exhibited. These walls also feature perimeter lighting created by Underscore6 luminaires.
