After a three-year renovation project, the former home of the Tisza family in Geszt has been opened to the public again, with an exhibition illustrating the history and daily life of this family whose various members have played an important role in Hungarian history.
Their residence, which was built in the late 18th century with a serene, carefully balanced design, has been renovated in a way that has also become a model for tourism-based, economic development.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the castle now offers accommodation, catering services and multi-purpose sports fields. The renovation has naturally involved installing new lighting systems. All Light Kft supplied the luminaires and also participated in the lighting design for both the façades and interiors.
In the exhibition spaces, track-mounted Palco floodlights with medium optics offer excellent lighting comfort and a design that suits both primarily white minimalist environments and historical settings where brick predominates. In some rooms, like the bookshop, general lighting is provided by IN 30 series luminaires fitted with high contrast optics.
In the glazed room on the upper floor that is furnished for meetings and lectures, the ultra-thin profile Libera System has been used that creates a linear light with miniaturised optics. The luminaire fits perfectly into this environment that is characterised by a combination of wood, glass and coloured furnishings.
The external façades are lit from below by Platea Pro floodlights that surround the entire building. This creates a homogeneous effect that blurs slightly at the top. In the front area of the castle this effect is combined with illumination from the high visual impact Lingotto luminaire, designed by Renzo Piano in the 1980s.
In the large garden that surrounds the castle, pole-mounted Twilight Joburg luminaires create a homogeneous and diffuse light effect that combines with the pathway illumination provided by iWay bollards fitted with 360° super comfort optics.
Light Up Orbit luminaires have also been installed amongst the oaks and ash trees that grow in the castle garden to create a scattered “star” effect that emphasises the fairy-tale aspect of the entire complex.
