Sustainability is sustainable when every decision is weighed in relation to how the product is used in the overall installation. Lighting efficiency, connectivity, recyclable and recycled materials, lightweight and easy to disassemble are all variables that affect sustainability.

Efﬁcient, miniaturized and connected light

More than 90% of a luminaires environmental impact arises from using it: consequently, this is where the greatest potential for cost savings and environmental protection can be found. This is why we rely on highly efficient LED sources and drivers. We also develop optics to ensure that excellent Lm/W values are achieved for the luminaires, as well as significant inter-spacing; thereby improving the effectiveness of the overall installation.

Yet, there's much more. All of our lighting devices can be managed using control systems that allow light to be used only when and where necessary.

Nonetheless, the remaining 10% of the environmental impact arises from other factors - such as production, materials, transport and disposal.

This is why we choose the ideal percentage of recycled material in relation to the performance levels required; we reduce product weight by continually miniaturizing products and components, optimizing performance, and making disassembly even easier to facilitate disposal.

We use more than 50% of recycled resources, while up to 94% of these resources can potentially be reused in further production processes.

We apply to great effect eco-design principles.
Even before the design stage, we assess in advance the environmental impact (availability, proximity, etc.) and the characteristics of circular use (recycling, recovery) of the materials used. In particular, most products are potentially capable of being disassembled to facilitate maintenance and possible recovery of components (especially aluminium), as well potential for being repaired.

The miniaturization of Linealuce mini 27R has achieved a significant reduction in the amount of material used, with lower consumption of resources as well as a reduction in weight and, consequently, transport.

Thanks to easy product disassembly, we promote maintenance and regeneration of components in order to maximize their useful life even beyond the warranty period.

We analyse the impact of our products along their entire life cycle using the universal standard Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method as well as belonging to the PEP Ecopassport operator programme for the Type III environmental declaration. This analysis is the basis for developing new products with lower carbon footprints.

We also take part in the: “LCA incubator” project. This project is organized by the Green Light Alliance in the USA in collaboration with the Athena Institute. The project's objective is to develop an LCA study of lighting fixtures to analyse their environmental impact and deﬁne the most appropriate future reference standards for lighting manufactures.

In 1994, iGuzzini launched a campaign against light pollution and supporting energy saving, informing ordinary people, mayors, politicians, the community of designers and scientists about the correct use of light in cities and promoting lighting master plans.

Full cut-off optics, capable of directing the light below 90°, efﬁcient light sources and adjustment of the luminous ﬂux have been our solutions for outdoor systems for more than 20 years. Very warm colour temperatures, as well as dynamic, from 3000k to 2200K to respect the nocturnal life of animals. A "good" light that ensures visual well-being and safety, as well as respect for Nature and its biorhythms.

We actively collaborate with the International Dark Sky Association, on the "DarkSky Approved" program.

The DarkSky Approved program provides objective, third-party certification for products, designs and completed projects that minimize glare, reduce the passage of light and do not pollute the night sky.

The Street family has been awarded Dark Sky certification.

Use of energy

We believe that protecting the environmental, preventing pollution, conserving biodiversity and efficient use of energy sources are essential for the development of a sustainable business model.

Sustainable architecture
Our premises meet the highest energy efﬁciency and environmental sustainability requirements.

The Recanati Light Laboratory, designed by Maurizio Varratta in 2010, has a geothermal heating system, a double skin façade, a green roof and a fully integrated automation system (climate, natural and artificial lighting, artificial ventilation, etc.).This is why it obtained an overall sustainability score, in accordance with the Sustainable Building Challenge certiﬁcation system, of 3.5 (on a scale from -1 to 5) - the highest value recorded until then for an office building in Italy. The central building in Recanati, designed by architect Mario Cucinella in 1997 it uses natural lighting and shading, a natural chimney-effect ventilation system, windows and integrated automatically controlled heating. It was considered to be the first example of industrial bio-architecture. Our sites in Great Britain and Spain also strictly adhere to low environmental impact criteria. The building in Guilford, designed by Pier Luigi Copat, achieved an excellent 71% score in for the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) assessment.

Clean energy
The headquarters (HQ) in Recanati (Italy), where approximately 64% of total iGuzzini scope 2 is located, as of 01/01/2022 is supplied exclusively with electricity from 100% renewable sources (guaranteed by public certiﬁcates of origin G.O. of the national administrator).

Electricity consumption is significantly reduced, in the Recanati premises, thanks to a large photovoltaic system (around 7,000 solar panels) which has generated around 2,000 MWH per year since 2011. It covers around 22% of requirements while avoiding the emission of 878 equivalent tonnes of CO2 per year.

Low-impact mobility
We host electricity recharging infrastructures powered by photovoltaic systems to provide our employees and customers with excellent benefits in terms of superior energy circularity, as well as reducing emissions and pollutants harmful to human health into the atmosphere, thanks to the incentive to use electric and/or plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Recycled paper
Product packaging uses recycled paper and we are working towards a signiﬁcant reduction in the use of plastic, without compromising product protection.
